Piacenza cards are undoubtedly among the most beautiful and recognizable Italian playing cards and represent, together with the Neapolitan ones, the most widespread and well-known type of deck of playing cards in Italy . The remarkable richness of details combined with the high recognizability and readability of suits and points, make the Piacenza cards the deck of excellence in the practice of numerous traditional games: Scopa , Briscola ,Tressette. The deck is made up of 40 “ double-face ” or mirrored cards, Piacenza cards are also called “ Latin style ” (with Spanish figures) in which the 4 suits conventionally adopted are: Batons , Cups , Coins and Swords . The figures represented on the cards have gone through many changes in their appearance over the centuries; often historical heroes or figures were used: Alexander the Great , Julius Caesar , Charlemagne , King David , etc. In the past, cards were all made by hand with limited techniques and production; thus, around 1480, the French suit symbols ( Hearts , Diamonds , Spades and Clubs ) were
introduced from France throughout Europe, as a derivation of the German ones, which were easier and cheaper to reproduce . The Piacentine took on their current appearance during the 19th century. Redesigned in the city, after being imported into Italy by French troops who at the time used them to play Aluette , a card game of distant Spanish origin that became popular mainly in France during the Renaissance. It is possible to put it in your pocket and not cause any discomfort during transport. The laminated card board with which the cards are made is of the highest quality. The designs are characterized by very bright colours that do not tend to fade over time. They will hardly bend because the cardboard has been made to perfection. Made in Italy.
